BONAP to Expand National Wetland Plant List to Include Upland Plants

BONAP, in collaboration with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the USDA National Resource Conservation Service, recently completed the 2013 National Wetland Plant List (NWPL).

The National Wetland Plant List provides the primary data used to delineate wetlands under the Clean Water Act, the Wetland Conservation Provisions of the Food Security Act (Swamp buster provisions) and the National Wetland Inventory Program.

This new NWPL will replace all previous versions of the List and will be used for all wetland delineations. The new NWPL includes a total of 8200 species and provides the most current taxonomy, county-level phytogeography, etc. from the BONAP database. The NWPL and accompanying database can be viewed at https://wetland-plants.sec.usace.army.mil/nwpl_static/v34/home/home.html.
